How do you effectively segment your player base for targeted analytics and monetization?

Traditional Segmentation (by spend):
• Whales: Top 1-2% spenders (>$100/month)
• Dolphins: Mid-tier spenders ($10-100/month)
• Minnows: Low/non-spenders (<$10/month)

But this seems too simplistic! I'm exploring multi-dimensional segmentation:

1. Behavioral Segments:
   - Core players (daily, high engagement)
   - Casual players (2-3x weekly)
   - Weekend warriors
   - Social players (guild-focused)
   - Competitive players (PvP-focused)

2. Lifecycle Stage:
   - New users (0-7 days)
   - Growing (8-30 days)
   - Established (31-90 days)
   - Veterans (90+ days)
   - At-risk/churning

3. Engagement + Monetization Matrix:
High Engagement + High Spend = VIPs
High Engagement + Low Spend = Potential converters
Low Engagement + High Spend = At-risk whales
Low Engagement + Low Spend = Churn candidates

Questions for the community:
• What segmentation framework do you use?
• How many segments is too many?
• Tools for automated segmentation?
• How do you personalize experiences per segment?
• RFM (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) - still relevant?

Share your segmentation strategies and learnings!
